One of the most important ways to keep your artificial turf lasting for the maximum number of years is to do regular cleanings. At Artificial Turf Factory Outlet, we understand the importance of educating our customers on how to properly clean their artificial turf. Although synthetic grass applications are mostly maintenance-free, it is in your best interest to get the maximum out of your investment. Water-borne stains, fungus, mold spots, and moss could all be the potential result of not adequately cleaning your turf. Below are a few cleaning tips to assist you in extending the appearance and overall lifespan of your turf application.
Water-borne Stains
Artificial turf can get water-borne stains. If you’re seeing water stains pop up on your synthetic turf then try using a mild soap to remove them. Be sure to use a mild soap with a PH level between 6.7-7.3. Scrub the stained area with a stiff fiber brush. Once you are finished scrubbing the area be sure to completely rinse the area.
Outdoor Stains
Other types of stains may appear on your synthetic grass. Common outdoor stains that appear on synthetic turf applications include but are not limited to the following: fungus, mold spots, and moss. If you’re seeing any type of bacteria growth happening on your artificial grass then use a well-known safe product like Simple Green. This is a simple and effective product that can be used to clean the affected areas. If you want to use a different product to clean your turf then make sure to do a spot test on any leftover scraps or in a small area in the corner where it won’t be noticeable if damage occurs. Most importantly be sure that your product does not contain bleach or ammonia.
Simple Steps for Cleaning Artificial Turf:
- Remove dust, dirt, and leaves. Use a flexible lawn rake or a broom with stiff bristles. Make sure the rake doesn’t have sharp tips.
- Prepare your Simple Green solution. In a bucket or large container, mix 1½ cups Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner with a gallon of water.
- Wet. Hose down the area.
- Apply Simple Green or other turf-safe solution. Use a long-handled deck brush to apply the cleaning solution in sections.
- Rinse. Rinse well with your garden hose. Push any foam to the edges and water it down.
- Repeat on other areas of your turf. Apply your cleaning solution to the next section and rinse.
- Air dry. Allow the entire turf area to dry
- Brush blades. After your synthetic turf is completely dry use a turf friendly rake or broom to groom the blades into their upright position.
